Volumes XI and XII of this work, covering January to December 1865.Illustrated with twelve plates to volume XI, and twelve plates to volumes XII, alongside further vignette illustrations.The Cornhill magazine was a monthly literary journal containing articles on a diverse range of subjects, as well as poems and serialised novels. Although issues continued to be published until 1975, the magazine reached the peak of its popularity under the editorship of William Makepeace Thackeray between 1860 and 1870. This collection contains chapters from 'Armadale' by Wilkie Collins and 'Wives and Daughters' by Elizabeth Gaskell. In a half calf binding, with marbled paper covered boards. Rubbing to joints and board perimeters of volume XI. Lacking spine labels to volume XI. A touch of rubbing to rear joint of volume XII. Head of front joint of volume XI starting, with board holding firm. Front hinge of volume XII strained, but firmly held. Internally, firmly bound.
